Assistant Farm Manager

Location:Working in the heart of East Kent at our Howfield Farm (CT4 7HG, 10 mins from Canterbury Centre)

What are we actually looking for?

This is a two-way street and needs to be the right position for you, as well as the right person for us. We are looking for someone whose first love is farming, with a passion for horticulture, sustainability, and people. Experience is not the key here, although someone with a related qualification is desirable. We have a team of great people who will help you grow and support you on your journey, whether you are a recent graduate looking for your first position or an experienced Supervisor/Farm Manager looking for your next move.

The Day job:

- Develop, maintain, and execute production and labour plans, providing required levels of resource and support to create a farming environment which is delivering high standards of agronomy and product quality efficiently. (in some cases, this may be specific to an individual location)

-Develop and maintain systems for accurately recording the storage and usage of raw materials. (i.e., Packaging, Chemicals, Crops, Equipment) Ensuring that stock on hand reports are always available so that accurate Management Information (MI) can be generated.

-Lead, coach, and develop the Farm team so they are engaged, delivering goals and objectives that enhance both personal development needs, as well as improve business performance

- Work collaboratively both on-farm and other businesses to share ideas and develop best practice so that farming and business performance is increased

-Deliver a lean farming environment that habitually looks for ways to improve performance and reduce waste through developing, implementing and utilising KPIs and other Management Information (MI), so that action can be taken to improve performance and best practice can be shared across the business.

-Maintain food safety and H&S compliance within the farm through adherence to policy and procedure. So that customer colleague and public safety is enhanced and the integrity of the Farmcare brand is upheld.

-Contribute to the formation of long-term plans, utilising industry best practice, and the budgeting process, play a leading role in the delivery of these plans. So that the Farm and Farmcare strategic vision can be achieved.

-Farm fully audited and compliant to all relevant external and internal H&S / food safety

- Farm accommodation complies with legislation.

-Projects delivered on time and on budget

-Delegate operations as they become standard business practice

-Maintain food safety and H&S compliance within the farm through adherence to policy and procedure. So that customer colleague and public safety is enhanced and the integrity of the Bardsley brand is upheld.
