What’s Involved With This Role

Temporary Assistant Engineer (Traffic Management)

Pay Rate: £14.86 per hour PAYE

Hybrid role - Most of the role can be performed working from home/agile however there will be a requirement to undertake regular site visits and attend the office on occasion.

An Engineer Assistant is needed to support the delivery of 20mph default speed limit in residential areas and traffic regulation order programme.

Corresponding with members of the public and councillors regarding traffic management matters will also be integral to the role.

Key Responsibilities

Provide technical advice relating to traffic management issues to both internal and external departments/organisations, Councillors, and the public.

Manage and oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all permanent traffic signal installations.

Offer traffic management advice relating to special events held on the highway.

Deliver programmes and monitor delivery for traffic management schemes across the Borough.

Deliver services in a member and customer focused manner in accordance with the Divisional, Directorate and Corporate policies and procedures and strategic objectives.

Respond to service requests for the team from Councillors, MPs, AM and the public in accordance with the required customer care standards.

Assess needs/requests, prepare, and arrange for processing and implementation of traffic management regulation orders.

Assist with the management, maintenance, operation, and development of signal-controlled infrastructure.

Assess and approve temporary road closures and temporary signs.

Provide advice on temporary traffic signals.

Prepare reports for Members and other delegations / meetings for the Traffic Management service.

Provide day to day advice to members of the public requesting information concerning Traffic Management related issues.

Qualifications/Experience

HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent Level 4 qualification.

Experience of the traffic regulation order process.

Experience of traffic sign design.

Experience of TSRGD and preparation of associated works packages.

Significant experience of working in a traffic management service delivering efficient services.

Skills/Technical Skills

Able to work effectively as part of a team and give guidance to others within the team on technical matters including some of a non-routine nature.

Able to demonstrate a commitment to delivering a high quality of performance management and customer care within a cost effective and efficient environment.

Able to make technical decisions on a day-to-day basis.

Able to communicate effectively with and relate well to others within the workplace and with relevant staff and external organisations.

Ability to work under own initiative and motivated to achieve measurable personal and organisational success.

Able to meet deadlines and targets.

Ability to prioritise workload that will ensure that many challenging objectives are completed in a timely manner.
