Purpose of the role

The Asset Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Operating Company’s asset data is accurate, robust, analysed and used appropriately to inform asset management and maintenance decisions within the Unit. Responsible for managing the Operating Company inspection team and analysing data and providing reports to ensuring that asset data is used to inform business decisions.

This role would suit a candidate with an appreciation of ISO55001 and has or is working towards an appropriate ISO55001 or Asset Management qualification. Has good data analytical and presentation capabilities, including knowledge of databases.

About The Role
  • Analysing data and providing reports to ensuring that asset data is used to inform business decisions
  • Prioritising and ranking schemes based on asset data and the Director’s guidance documents
  • Ensuring that asset data is accurately used in Value for Money assessments of all schemes
  • Developing draft programmes and ensuring the schemes are progressed into appropriate programmes of work
  • Championing and driving embedment of Asset Management principles throughout the Contract and ensuring teams have the necessary competencies and skills to deliver Asset Management
  • Responsible for managing the Inspection teams and ensuring that the Inspection teams carry out robust, repeatable inspections, collecting accurate asset information, including asset register, defects and condition data
  • Responsible for ensuring the asset data is in compliance with the asset manuals, including the Trunk Road Information Manual (TRIM) and other guidance documents
  • Analysing the asset data to identify trends
  • Actively identifying data gaps and issues and proactively ensuring data is updated to maintain and improve accuracy
  • Analysing the asset data to identify and prioritise potential schemes identifying opportunities to combine schemes into hybrid schemes.
  • Responsible for ensuring the continual provision of systems to support the contracts’ asset management performance
  • To develop the application and monitoring the effectiveness of the Asset Management Plan and for implementing the processes that identify continual improvement opportunities
  • Lead, review and challenge budgets and forecasts to ensure consistent, challenging but deliverable approach adopted.
  • To manage a team in continually improving the asset management capability of the commission
  • Provide the necessary data and interpret management information to monitor performance.
  • Ensure and improve the delivery of service excellence across the account through maximising efficiency and effectiveness, actively sharing best practice and seeking opportunities for profit improvement.
  • Ensure that business imperatives are clearly communicated and understood throughout the defined contract area and to others, as appropriate

  • Delivered against a business plan/objectives - including holding responsibility for the management of resources
Role Qualifications
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) in an appropriate engineering discipline and a Member of an Engineering Institution.
  • Must have demonstrable appropriate experience within their role working on a trunk road maintenance Contract or having successfully fulfilled a role of a similar nature.
  • Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Email)
  • Experienced in data collection, performance monitoring, performance improvement
  • techniques, process improvement and continual improvement activities
  • Ideally experience relative to the construction or highways industry

Here at Amey we have been awarded the contract to manage and maintain the Trunk Road Network in the North East of Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland. We will work closely with Transport Scotland to deliver improved levels of service to the trunk road network, aiming to ensure consistent, predictable and reliable journeys for road users. The contract will deliver maintenance, road safety, bridges and structures and discrete improvement schemes whilst taking into account the Scottish Government’s climate change and sustainability targets.
