To provide a point of contact for patients and act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors and other medical staff.

Main tasks:

  • Reception duties
  • Managing appointment systems
  • Managing medical records
  • Preparing consulting rooms
  • Operating telephone system
  • Start and end of day procedures (dependent on hours of work)
  • Communicating effectively with patients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication, and with team members
  • Taking responsibility for your own developmental learning and performance
  • Actively participating in training to update knowledge and skills to maintain competencies, including mandatory training
  • Assisting with safeguarding for both children and vulnerable adults using local guidance and referral criteria
  • Understanding basic legal and communication issues regarding child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance misuse and addictive behaviour
  • Alerting other team members to issues of quality and risk in the care of patients and other staff members

Burnham & Berrow Medical Centre was founded in 1955 and has been at the heart of the community for the past 61 years. We have a team of almost 60 staff, both clerical and clinical. We are a large semi-rural practice with a patient list of 16,500 patients. We currently has 5 GP’s and a large clinical team to work alongside.
