The Apprentice Chemist will be the most junior member of the laboratory team at the Warminster site. They will begin by performing basic laboratory tasks such as daily, weekly, and monthly calibration checks.

Following training, they will perform a number of routine analytical operations in order to maintain quality control of the products made at the Warminster location.

Comprehensive training will be given for all techniques, which will include:

  • Balance calibrations
  • pH meter calibrations
  • Check that data loggers are recording data
  • Titrations
  • HPLC analyses
  • Gc analyses
  • UV-vis spectroscopy
  • Infrared spectroscopy
  • Lab housekeeping

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Experience of titration, use of HPLC or other chromatography techniques or any industrial laboratory experience would be desirable but is not required
  • Good communication skills

Desired qualifications

BCC at A-level (or equivalent), which must include Chemistry.

Future prospects

Initial 4-year contract. Training in analytical methods, regulatory affairs and research and development techniques will be provided both via attendance at courses and seminars and on the job.

Good Manufacturing Practice training will be provided. Permanent employment opportunities will be explored towards the end of the 4th year.

Things to consider

Industrial environment conducting chemical blending. The lab is quite small. The role is also in a semi-rural environment and difficult to access via public transport.
