During the training program, we ensure that our trainees gain some experience in all aspects of small practice accountancy, including:
- Annual accounts
- Tax returns
- Tax planning
- Auditing
- Independent examinations
- Bookkeeping using sage one
- VAT/MTD return preparation, advice, and compliance
- Payroll
- P11D preparation
- Liaising with banks and institutions
- Preparation of management accounts
- Business planning and forecasting
- Business start-ups

No formal prior experience necessary, though demonstration of an interest in accountancy is essential.
Personal qualities
Candidates who demonstrate strong communication skills, who are driven to succeed with a can-do positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Desired qualifications
- 2:1 degree or above (achieved or predicted) in any discipline or the full AAT or CFAB qualification
- Candidates must also hold 7 GCSE’s at C/4 or above (including maths, English and at least one Science) along with a minimum of 120 UCAS Points (obtained at A or AS Level) or equivalent
Future prospects
Towards the end of the training contract, we will discuss what the candidate wishes to do next and from that, support the individual to get to where they want to be. One of the current directors trained with the firm from university and another went on to become a partner at KPMG. We consider that we have successfully assisted all former trainees to pursue placements either within the firm, or with other larger firms, to achieve their personal career ambitions.

ACA is a great option if you’re looking to become a chartered accountant and work in accountancy and finance. It opens a wealth of opportunities, as you can specialise in specific areas or sectors, or work broadly across multiple industries. It consists of three levels: Certificate, Professional, and Advanced. You’ll also need to have 450 practical work experience days. It’ll take around three years to complete the qualification.
Certificate Level:
You’ll be introduced to the essentials of accountancy, finance, and businesses. You’ll learn about double-entry accounting, assurance, business and technology, law, management, and taxation. This level takes around one year to complete.

You’ll become eligible for chartered accountancy status upon qualifying. You’ll be able to work in exciting roles such as auditor, forensic accountant, financial accountant, and tax specialist.
