Siemens Mobility Ltd help to solve the problems of increasing traffic by working with railway operators to improve the capacity, punctuality and security of their systems. We also ensure that the carbon footprint produced by transportation is kept to a minimum. Within our Mobility division, you will be part of a team helping to secure future contracts that will help shape the future of Rail Transport in the UK and beyond.

We are recruiting school and college leavers to join our apprenticeship scheme who want to make a difference and develop their skills in engineering.

The challenge

Part of being an apprentice at Siemens means you get to work on real life projects whilst also being supported on a guided learning journey. This will be a 2 year apprenticeship where you will be put onto the bid and proposal level 3 standard.

Here’s how the programme works:

  • When you join the business, you will be allocated both a line manager and a mentor to support you through your apprenticeship
  • At the same time you will be signed up with a specialist training provider who will deliver the academic element of your apprenticeship with. To support you, 20% of your standard weekly working hours will be spent studying for your apprenticeship qualification. (20% off the job study time throughout your apprenticeship is still paid for).
  • On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you have gained the skills and knowledge to be eligible for membership of the Association of Bid and Proposal Management Professionals (APMP)We will also expect you to finish the elements of the structured learning plan, attendance to all performance evaluations, rotations across the business as well as developing your professional competence throughout.
Here is what you can make a difference in:

  • Gain a strong understanding the sales life cycle and how it all fits together; from opportunity tracking/pipeline, customer engagement, capture planning, competitive tendering, presentations, negotiations, contract award, implementation, and delivery.
  • Understand and follow a detailed proposal process from opportunity qualification/Request for Information (RFI) stage, solution development, bid resource allocation, proposal writing and development, production and submission.
  • Understand when to use appropriate supporting templates and procedures, ensuring necessary steps, reviews and signatories are planned prior to proposal submissions.
  • Know how to use bid software to compile electronic submissions and understand how e-portals work, including how and where electronic tenders are handled
  • Understand how to assist in the dissection of a bid and identify the customer’s key requirements.
  • Understand the relevant customer key issues and win strategy for individual proposals/bids.

  • Flexible with excellent communication and methodological skills
Minimum Educational Requirements:

You will have achieved or be on track to achieve at least 5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above including maths and English language or 3 A Levels (or BTEC equivalent) at grade C or above.
