Barings is seeking candidates for the Barings Analyst Programme in our Real Estate Group. The Analyst Programme is designed to provide junior professionals the opportunity to learn about real estate through working closely with senior professionals. The analyst program includes building models, forecasting, authoring underwriting memos, managing reporting and amendments for existing investments, and actively participating in training and team-building activities. Top Talent may be invited to join Barings as a full-time employee following completion of the Analyst Programme.

Goals of Analyst Programme:

  • For the Analyst to gain experience that will allow junior professionals to:
    • Gain a better understanding of identifying quality risk/return opportunities
    • Develop proficiency in modeling, financial analysis, and business writing
    • Develop skills, professionalism, and experience that will translate into future roles with greater responsibility whether at Barings or another firm.
  • For the Firm - to train junior professionals such that they are able to provide leverage to senior professionals, while utilizing them in a manner such that high performers will want to remain with the Firm in roles of increased responsibility.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in underwriting and analyzing potential acquisitions/originations, including cash flow projections, using Excel software, valuation and return calculations.
  • Gather and evaluate economic, demographic, and real estate market data.
  • Review legal documents and other materials as part of the due diligence process.
  • Assist in the preparation of investment briefs and related support material.
  • Assist analysts in responding to client and regional office requests.
  • Provide analytical and modeling support to analysts and management.
  • Participate in the financial review of property operating results.
  • Assist in aggregating data and inputting information into a database; maintain and improve existing databases, presentation materials, and department analytical tools.
  • Respond to requests for specific short-term projects.
  • Participate in learning sessions with members of the management team across Barings to gain insight to and knowledge of the business.
  • Write a case study on a separate project that is self-initiated during the Analyst’s tenure at the firm.

Qualifications

  • Currently working towards a degree in real estate, finance, accounting or related field with a planned completion date of 2022
  • Some commercial real estate investment analysis experience is desired but not required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience modeling financial data.
