The SLR Anchorage office has a great opening for an entry- to mid-level candidate to work with experienced and recognized professionals in their field. The successful candidate will support projects in Alaska and gain exposure to a variety of projects with excellent mentoring and growth opportunities. The role provides opportunities for advancement to a field team lead and project management position.

This is a full-time permanent position supporting our air quality team in emissions measurements, and air quality and meteorological monitoring services. Fieldwork and travel at all times of year to remote places are required as part of this position. The successful candidate will be working outside.

Required Education/Qualifications

Job Description

  • B.S. or associate degree in instrumentation, electronics, environmental science, engineering (mechanical, environmental, chemical), chemistry, physics.
  • 0-5 years’ experience in emissions testing, and/or air quality and/or meteorological monitoring
  • Possess valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Ability to travel by airplane, helicopter, boat, and car, including overnight travel
  • Ability to work in the field for up to 2 consecutive weeks and up to 30% per year.
  • Good analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

Required Technical Skills/Experience

  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, telemetry, and remote field monitoring systems
  • Familiarity with CEMS, air sampling, , or meteorological monitoring
  • Ability to self-test, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of industrial facility operations and safety protocols

Preferred Technical Skills/Experience

  • Experience installing and maintaining instrumentation or sampling equipment
  • Demonstrated familiarity with local, regional travel and shipping logistics
  • Dangerous Goods shipping (IATA, DOT)
  • Familiarity solving environmental problems, calculating air quality emissions, and interpreting environmental regulations
  • Familiarity with federal reference methods for emission testing
  • Attention to detail, including excellent proofreading and writing skills
  • Effectively communicate progress and findings

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Involvement in all aspects of our monitoring projects to include air quality, meteorological, emissions testing and continuous emission monitoring.
  • Involvement in designing of monitoring , remote power and communications systems, remote site access logistics, troubleshooting station equipment,
  • Preparation of program specific monitoring QA and test plans
  • Frequent field trips to remote locations to complete project work such as emission testing, station installation and maintenance.
  • Logistical assistance and project coordination
  • Develop processes and complete tasks for air quality monitoring and field data collection under the supervision of a Senior Project Manager
  • Review and analyze environmental monitoring and operating data
  • Interact with project team members to conduct field programs and prepare reports for review
