Job description
This is a unique opportunity for a passionate supporter of nature with specialist knowledge of agriculture, land use and food systems to join the WWF in Scotland and save our planet.

Our work in Scotland has a well-deserved reputation for effectiveness and innovation and has impact across the UK and internationally. We have developed a strong track record of working on agriculture, land use and related aspects of nature policy since 2018. As Agriculture and Land Use Policy Manager, you will build on this to secure lasting changes to rural policy and funding that deliver for climate, nature and rural communities. With an Agriculture Bill due in 2023, this role provides a real opportunity to leave a lasting impact on Scotland’s rural policy.

As Agriculture and Land Use Policy Manager you will deploy our evidence base to transform farming and land use in Scotland to meet 21st century challenges. This will involve taking the lead on the development of our sustainable agriculture and land use policyas well as securing political support for policy priorities. You will commission and manage research contracts as well as prepare briefings and other materials too. You will also collaborate with colleagues to create and deliver compelling bespoke Scottish messagesin traditional and social media and for wider public campaigning. As our in-house expert, you will provide knowledge covering relevant Scottish governmental policy and legislative activity. Important will be the ability to represent WWF in in strong partnerships as well as ensure WWF Scotland contributes to WWF-UK and global network priorities.

For this role, you must have specialist knowledge of agriculture, land use and food systems coupled with policy development expertise. You will have a proven track record of influencing and negotiating with external and internal stakeholders too. Good at building strong networks, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills You will also be capable of analysing scientific evidence and data, you will be comfortable understanding, absorbing and synthesise complex information, and translating it into impactful policy, advice and communications.

Experience of working on sustainable food or environment/land use policy and knowledge of the Scottish political landscape would be an advantage.
