We are seeking a hands-on person who enjoys traveling and comes from an agriculture background to join our client as a field-based Agricultural Engineer. This permanent, employed position is based in Suffolk however involves regular UK-wide travel (with an average of 3-4 nights away per month) and more occasional overseas travel (around 3 weeks each year).

The Company

Our client has been designing and manufacturing machinery and accessories (on both a small and large scale) for global agricultural markets for over 50 years. They have achieved enormous success in their field due to their reputation for quality products and on-site engineering expertise. They are also a very stable employer, with high retention rates of staff and an excellent friendly, tidy, and safe working environment.

The Role

You’ll be working as part of a busy organisation, providing mainly pre-booked servicing for customers’ products. When not booked to attend service work, you’ll be based at the company’s manufacturing facility near Bury St Edmunds, working in the fitting team. You will travel the length and breadth of the country visiting customers on their farms, attending to their breakdowns, and servicing their equipment. You’ll also spend some time ‘on call’ where you’ll be expected to be available to speak to customers outside of standard working hours and help them resolve any engineering/product issues over the phone or video call (or more rarely in person). As well as visiting UK-based customers, you’ll also get the opportunity to travel overseas a few times each year, too.

Duties will involve:

  • Responding to customer queries in a timely manner, support with troubleshooting, and diagnosing faults were required.
  • Providing liaison between the customer and design team regarding the performance of new product designs out in the field
  • Following up feedback by returning, fitting, and testing modified parts.
  • Assisting the sales department with machine installation and commissioning both in the UK and overseas
  • Performing Field Support relating to product updates/service/repair/warranty work.
  • Providing support to the Service Manager during busy periods
  • Completing written reports where appropriate

Role Requirements

This role would suit somebody from a farming or agricultural engineering background. Whether you’re a qualified Engineer or self-taught, if this role interest you and you have a agriculture background; we’d love to hear from you as training can be provided for the right candidate.

Role requirements are:

  • A solid background in agriculture and an understanding of the challenges customers face
  • An excellent hands-on knowledge of agricultural machinery and its operation
  • Good hands-on mechanical skills
  • A willingness to learn.
  • Happy to work independently with good self-management and time management skills
  • Happy to travel around the UK regularly and overseas occasionally.
  • Enjoys working within the farming community.
  • Self-motivated and hard-working nature
  • Excellent professional and clear communication skills
  • Good IT Skills with the ability to use MS Office ideally
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Full UK driving licence
