This rapidly expanding team is currently the leading Consumer division in the UK. In order to continue to grow and deliver at a pace, we’re now looking for an energetic, ambitious and proactive Account Director to play a critical role across one of Edelman’s largest global consumer clients – Shell, particularly the Shell Motorsport business.
This is a significant role that allows a candidate the autonomy to lead a central team, based in London, as well as working with Shell to deliver highly engaging communications activations around their prestigious motorsport partners Scuderia Ferrari (Formula One) and Nissan e.dams (Formula E). As the Account Director on the Shell Motorsport account, this person will be responsible the day-to-day running and strategic delivery of the Shell Motorsport press office, ranging from market-lead activations through to global media opportunities with key drivers and team personnel. This person will need to have a strong agency background, with advanced skills in client and stakeholder management, as well as having a strong knowledge of earned storytelling and media relations, helping to coach and guide junior team members on this. In addition, the perfect candidate would have a passion for motorsport or sponsorship, showcasing examples of how they have helped brands communicate and execute against their sponsorship platforms.
As an Account Director, this role will sit as part of the Edelman Brand practice’s senior bench, so it will be imperative that they are able to effectively manage budgets and financial processes, as well as working closely with their Directors to capacity plan, forecast and resource manage. They will also be expected to make a mark in the creative stakes, as well as to spearheading integration with other key disciplines/practices to help deliver organic growth and drive distinction for the Edelman business with the clients.

Specific job requirements:

In this Account Director role, working in collaboration with the leadership team, we will expect you to be a leader in the following areas:

Business Strategy

    • Develop and implement a strategy to help drive the next stage of growth building on an already strong portfolio of client accounts and with a focus on retained client accounts.
    • Find ways to create, embed and share best practice campaigns around Brand, Motorsport and Sponsorship communications.
    • Work collaboratively with key Edelman disciplines (Creative, DxI and Digital) to develop fully integrated campaigns and helping to unlock growth for the business.
    • Be able to guide and support Shell and Edelman markets in activating against the key sponsorship properties within the Shell Motorsport family (also including Ducati in MotoGP and Hyundai in WRC).

Client Services

    • Foster a strong relationship with key Communications and Marketing clients
    • Work with senior leadership to deliver strong strategies to match client briefs, and ensure we deliver innovative and forward-thinking campaigns with earned at the heart.
    • Be proactive in sharing news, trends and potential opportunities with the clients to ensure that Edelman is positioned as a true partner who understands their business
    • Be able to run new briefs and deliver integrated responses that are well thought through, innovative and delivering earned at the heart.
    • Have an understanding of the sponsorship and/or motorsport worlds so as to provide the clients with smart recommendations on how to maximise their assets within the earned media and influencer space.

Operations

    • Be a role model in fostering good team management and relationship-building skills.
    • Independently manage financial processes including cost tracking, capacity and resource planning and forecasting
    • Implement and trial new processes to help support team time management and project delivery, to ensure efficiencies are being delivered
    • Line manage and mentor junior team members

Experience Required for This Role:

    • Big Consumer brand experience is essential, experience in the automotive, sponsorship or motorsport sector
    • An established, self-starting Account Director looking for greater autonomy and the opportunity to shape and drive teams
    • Proven track record in delivering high volume impactful media coverage and strong editorial skills
    • Global market management experience
    • Creative storyteller with a natural curiosity in the cultural landscape and societal trends, and ability to turn those into earned fame across Europe
    • Use of digital and other technologies for storytelling and communications, with experience in content and production
    • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and unite teams behind a central concept, with experience of successfully selling in those concepts to clients and seeing them through to execution
    • The gravitas and experience to drive and influence multiple market teams, and to act as a partner providing counsel to senior clients
    • Outstanding financial management and client handling and presentation skills
