Mechanical Design Engineer - Shape the Future of Defence Technology!

Mercury Hampton are working with a global multi-million pound manufacturer of bespoke engineering products for applications in the critical engineering sectors.

This group of businesses currently have turnover in excess of £1 billion and due to continued growth and expansion – they are looking to expand their design team.

This position has massive progression opportunities – My client are always looking for talented individuals to become internal team leaders, supervisors and managers.

You will have a background in mechanical engineering, you will be experienced in SolidWorks and 3D Drawings, you will probably have been working in a highly regulated critical engineering market, such as defence, aerospace, oil and gas, automotive etc.

The key to this role is a dynamic can do attitude.

About The Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop cutting-edge products for defence/marine/aerospace applications
  • Conduct detailed engineering analyses for performance, reliability, and safety in extreme conditions – including One Offs, Two Offs, Sample Testing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate products into defence systems
  • Oversee testing and ensure compliance with industry, military, and government standards – Heavily Regulated Products and Standards
  • Work with clients in a consultative role providing design solutions tailored to a client’s needs interpreting specifications, reviewing designs and supporting product validation.

Ideal Candidate

  • Engineering Qualifications in a relevant discipline (Mechanical, Aerospace, Naval/Marine)
  • 5+ years’ experience in a relevant field, preferably with pump/valve/hydraulic systems/mechanical seals/couplings/actuators knowledge.
  • Proficiency in 3D software (preferably SolidWorks) and engineering/quality tools – APQP, FMEAs, 8Ds, 5Ys, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude.
  • You need to be able to work in their Birmingham office, so you could live in Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Marston Green, Solihull, Coventry, Tamworth.
