Applications are invited for a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. This is a newly created post to support expansion of the service.

The applicant must be a fully trained Urological Surgeon and will join a team of 5 Consultant Urologists providing emergency and elective urology services. The successful candidate will undertake regular theatre, outpatient and diagnostic clinics and participate in a 1:6 on-call rota.

On call duties will be to partake in the non-resident Consultant rota. The candidate will also participate in the Consultant of the Week rota.

The self-contained dedicated Urology Outpatient Unit is based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe along with state-of-the-art theatres, a dedicated surgical admissions lounge and a refurbished treatment centre providing day-case facilities for flexible cystoscopies.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe in the Urology Department at Leighton Hospital, Ward 8, division of Surgery and Cancer.

There may be some expectation to work clinics at Victoria Infirmary, our outpatient site in Northwich.

Job responsibilities

Direct Clinical Care (DCC)

9 Programmed Activities (PAs) on average per week. Each theatre session is remunerated at 1.25 PAs including pre- and post-operative care.

The on-c

Direct Clinical Care will include outpatient activity, ward rounds, surgical activity, inpatient day case and cystoscopy, and administration.

The Consultants work to a standard clinic template, with 6 new and 4 follow up patients per general clinic and 10 patients per cystoscopy clinic.

The Trusts theatre utilisation target is 85% with an expected 3.8 average urology cases per session.

Supporting Professional Activity (SPA)

1 PA per week. The SPAs will consist of 1 core SPA which will be worked flexibly in the job plan. An additional SPA allocation would be available if evidence of SPA to support the service is provided at the job planning meeting.

Evidence of SPA work will be actively monitored.
